Besha Rodell, Dining editor and restaurant critic for Creative Loafing, reviewed the Atlanta institution Bacchanalia this week and awarded it four stars. While Rodell did focus on particular dishes and their execution - she says of the 15 dishes she tried over the course of a month, "none is burned into my memory" - the main point of the review seemed to be is this Atlanta dining behemoth still worth the expense after all of these years? Her answer?
The experience of eating here is largely exquisite, but hardly life-altering. While I haven't had a meal recently that surpasses the meals I had at Bacchanalia, I've had quite a few that were more memorable, and a fraction of the price...I can think of nowhere better to bring a distinguished overseas guest, but I can think of about 10 better places to propose marriage or celebrate an anniversary.
What do you think? Is Bacchanalia worth the expense? Overrated? Spill it in the comments.
