Julia LeRoy has been in the news a lot the spring following the announcements that she would be both the consulting chef for Pinewood Tippling Room and Watershed on Peachtree's chef de cuisine. Atlanta magazine caught up with her to find out about her new gigs, her friendship with Joe Truex, and what the restaurants will be dishing out.
LeRoy met Truex when the two did a panel together at the 2011 Taste of Atlanta. They got along well from the beginning and have similar ideas about food despite being "opposites in a lot of ways." She won't divulge the fruits of those food ideas quite yet, but does reveal that the menu at Watershed, which opens May 24, will be an expansion of the original and will include have hints of the Georgia coast, Louisiana Bayou, and the "diverse ethnic flavors found throughout the South." LeRoy also isn't going to mess with the restaurant's tried and true fried chicken recipe, despite her background in the field.
She's also completed the menu for Pinewood Tippling Room, which includes gourmet versions of nostalgic favorites like fried bologna sandwiches and funnel cake. The food is similar to what she prepared as chef of Bookhouse Pub. Pinewood Tippling Room opens May 15.
