A Jewish-style deli called The General Muir is the latest concept to come from the team behind West Egg Café. The full-service restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch and will serve traditional deli classics like pastrami, corned beef, chopped liver, smoked fish, and hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels as well as "innovative takes on traditional deli and Jewish dishes."
A press release from Cousins property announces that the deli will open this fall in Decatur's Emory Point development on Clifton Road and is a partnership between Jennifer and Ben Johnson, who opened West Egg in 2004, and Shelley Sweet, formerly of Empire State South and currently West Egg's general manager. It will have a bar, coffee shop, and pastry counter in addition to the sit-down dining option. A chef has yet to be announced. Other restaurants coming to the space are Fresh to Order, La Tagliatella, Marlow's Tavern, Tin Lizzy's, and Which Wich Superior Sandwiches.
UPDATE: West Egg announces, "The General Muir is named for the U.S. refugee transport ship that brought Jennifer’s mother and grandparents, Holocaust survivors, to New York following World War II."
