August 7-15 is Julia Child Restaurant Week, and Bistro Niko will be offering Crepes Suzette, Supreme de Volaille aux Champignons, Sole Meuniere, and Julia's Ratatouille for the occasion. Chef Gary Donlick actually cooked a fish course for Julia Child in 1987 around her 75th birthday. He was a student at the Culinary Institute and externing at the Escoffier Room at the time. Her cookbook, Mastering French Cooking, was the first that he ever owned, and he loved her television show and the fact that she tackled difficult dishes without fear. He says that watching Child taught him that small details make all the difference in food. [EaterWire]
