Fry Talks Man Caves, Nava, and His New Restaurant, Opening January 2013

Last week we learned that Ford Fry is, in fact, opening a new restaurant in the Nava space in Buckhead. We also heard that it will be a Colonial American restaurant with "early American open oven cooking." But what does that really mean, anyway? Read on for the scoop from Fry himself.

What is the estimated opening date?
Late January 2013

How did you decide on the location and theme?
I like the location because of the easy access from W Paces and the "end" of the traffic crunch zone of Peachtree (mainly Piedmont to Lenox). The patio is also a plus. Regarding the theme, it's really not a theme butt a philosophy of cooking. I love cooking over burning wood, and our plan is to construct a large open hearth where we are cooking as they did in early American times. It's all about using locally sourced products where perfect technique is key.

Is it true there won't be any utensils at the restaurant? Isn't that a little Medieval Times?
No, silly! That was just a text from our comedian graphic artist Alvin Diec.

What type of menu items should we expect?
The menu is still in the planning phases but we will focus on wood-roasted meat, fish, and fowl. These items will translate into lunch as well, through salads, sandwiches, and simple, lighter entree plates.

What's the story with the restaurant name (assuming it's still nameless)?
We don't [have a name yet]. I'd really like to play off off classic literature. I really want the name to mean nothing!

Tell us about the Drawing Room. Is this like a man cave for the older generation?
Absolutely. The Drawing Room the our private dining room which will take you back in time to old oil paintings and plush seating. Just a play on the days where the men all broke for their brandy.

Anything else you want to share?
I really wanted to speak to Nava and Buckhead Life Restaurant Group. Nava was such an amazing restaurant and if anyone knows how to build amazing restaurants, it's Pano. He is obviously focusing on fresh new things to look forward to. I can only hope that we can hold a candle to what Nava has brought to Atlanta and Buckhead.
