David Sweeney left the Bakery at Cakes & Ale earlier this month after serving since 2011 as the Decatur restaurant's chef. He was known for his lunch menu of sandwiches, salads, and grain bowls and had recently instituted a small plates dinner service, which is now no longer being offered. Renita Moore, who was promoted from within the ranks, is the bakery's new lunchtime chef; she'd worked closely with Sweeney for a few years before he left.
Sweeney can still be found at the Grant Park Octane on Sunday evenings for Fresh Market Bites. There's also a rumor: Industry insiders say that he left Cakes & Ale to write a cookbook. Apparently, the book is in the early stages, and the chef left to devote more time to the project. Got more intel? Here's the tipline.
