Mihoko Obunai, the former chef/owner of Repast, executive chef at Joli Kobe Bakery and Cafe, and pop-up ramen cook, is no longer with Chamblee's Southbound. Obunai was in charge of the lunch service, and her last day on the job was Friday. There's no word yet on reasons for her departure.
With Obunai gone, Southbound executive chef Ryan Smith is adding lunch to his workload, and he'll debut a new menu Tuesday. Sticking with the restaurant's Southern theme, the sandwich offerings include fried oyster, chicken salad, and Nashville-style hot chicken. Among the entrees are blackened catfish and grits and a fall vegetable plate, and the "lighter fare" includes smoked-beef chili and fried green tomatoes.
In addition to the lunch revamp, Smith has launched a fall dinner menu, billed as "the biggest change in [the] menu since opening in June." Look for items such as a fall mushroom farro risotto, pork ossobuco, and wood-grilled Scottish salmon. Check out both new menus below.
