Big Tex, the Decatur restaurant from Fox Brothers Restaurant Group, is closing today. The restaurant opened in May 2011, and according to a release, its shutter comes from "growing demand on the Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q kitchen."
"We are certainly going to miss serving our loyal friends in Decatur we have made over the three years, and we hope to be back one day," Jonathan Fox said. "We are thankful for the additional demand on our barbecue business but closing Big Tex is bittersweet.
"We will be focusing on the future of Fox Bros Bar-B-Q with expansion and the build out of our new catering/commissary facility on Ottley Drive. The new commissary will really be a game changer for us and help meet the needs of our restaurant in Candler Park and future Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q restaurants."
Fox Bros. became the official barbecue restaurant of the Atlanta Falcons in July. The catering division of the company is headquartered down the street from SweetWater Brewing Company.
Big Tex served "Texas-inspired cuisine" and often hosted live music. Fox Bros. will hold onto the space for "an unforeseen period of time," and there's no word yet on when or where future outposts of the barbecue restaurant might open.
