From local empire builder Ford Fry, The El Felix opens today in Alpharetta's Avalon mixed-use development. It's Fry's first OTP restaurant and his first go at a "Mex-Tex" concept.

The menu mixes a little bit of standard Tex-Mex with some more upscale dishes. Traditional plates include tacos, enchiladas, and chilis rellenos. The "platos supericas" feature an assortment of fajitas, braised short rib, basted red snapper, and a garlic butter-basted lobster. Appetizers, sandwiches, salads, lunch specials, and dessert also make appearances.

Behind the bar, look for a list of clever cocktails, wine, and beer on tap and in cans and bottles.

The El Felix joins Fry's list of restaurants across the city: JCT. Kitchen & Bar (Westside), King + Duke (Buckhead), No. 246 (Decatur), St. Cecilia (Buckhead), and The Optimist (Westside). His Krog Street Market Mex-Tex concept, Superica, is on the horizon, as is an unnamed sister restaurant to The Optimist in the Inman Quarter development.

The El Felix, located at 1130 Avalon Place, is open daily for lunch and dinner. Weekday hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (11 p.m. on Friday). The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Take a look at the full menu below.
