The James Beard Foundation nominees were announced this morning from a long list of semifinalists. Eleven Atlanta chefs and restaurants (plus one from Athens and one from Asheville) made the semifinals, and of those, Steven Satterfield of Miller Union is again nominated as a finalist, this year in the Best Chef: Southeast category. Joining him is Richard Blais, for his cookbook, Try This at Home: Recipes from My Head to Your Plate, which has been nominated in the Cookbook: General Cooking category.
Atlantans went winless at last year's awards, though Satterfield was up for Best New Chef: Southeast, Kevin Gillespie received a nod for for his first cookbook, Fire in My Belly in the Cookbook: American Cooking category, and Holeman & Finch earned a nomination for Outstanding Bar Program. This year's awards will be announced on Friday, May 2 and Monday, May 5.
