The Idea Behind Giovanni Di Palma's Piazza San Gennaro

From the Eater archives, a 2012 interview with Antico Pizza Napoletana's Giovanni Di Palma, in which he discusses plans for his Westside Italian empire. Gio's Chicken Amalfitano is now open, as is Caffe Gio. Currently planned additions to Piazza San Gennaro include a limoncello bar, a market, and an outdoor grill and cabana bar. Some or all of these are set to open this spring; stay tuned for future news and precise opening dates.

In September 2012, Antico Pizza founder Giovanni Di Palma shared the details of his gelateria-cafe-limoncello bar, called Bar Antico, at the time slated to open in mid-October. But Di Palma's plans then and still do run much deeper; he's purchased land around Antico with the intention of creating Piazza San Gennaro, a "congregation point and destination for everyone in Atlanta." Here, he explains why and what to expect.
