Giovanni di Palma's vision for Piazza San Gennaro, anchored by Atlanta pizza staple Antico Pizza Napoletana, is two steps closer to realization with the opening this month of a market and cabana bar. Bar Amalfi and Luisa's join the mix of establishments already open in the Hemphill Avenue complex, including Gio's Chicken Amalfitano and gelateria Caffe Gio. A third, still undisclosed concept is slated to open later this summer, but for now head below for more details on both of the known newcomers.
First to open will be Luisa's, the plaza's bottega, which will sell a mix of imported Italian products including pastas, cheeses, butter, fine chocolates, and tomatoes. Also for sale will be apparel and branded kitchen equipment. From Creative Loafing, the shop will also feature "a reservations-only dining table— set beneath an elegant wine-barrel chandelier— for both intimate meals and private parties." The shop is slated to open this Saturday, April 12.
Not long after, the long-planned limoncello and bellini spot Bar Amalfi will open. Look for a cabana setting with fire pits and an outdoor grill. Additionally, the pizzas that put Antico on the map will be available until 1 a.m., including on Sundays when the pizzeria itself is closed.
