Welcome back to Eater Scenes, in which Eater photographer Matthew Wong visits local establishments to capture them at a certain, specific point in time. Today, Gunshow's Hired Guns event on May 27.
Combining modern Southern with various ethnic cuisines, served dim sum-style, Kevin Gillespie's Gunshow is one of the more unique restaurants in Atlanta. The Top Chef alum has managed to raise the bar in recent months with his Hired Guns series. For two days each month, Gillespie brings in some of the top chefs throughout the South, including Tom Gray of Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails in Jacksonville, Fla., and John Currence of City Grocery in Oxford., Miss. It all started in May with Chris Shepherd, who cooks at Underbelly in Houston.
Shepherd, winner of the 2014 James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest, joined the Gunshow team in the kitchen on May 27 and May 28. In addition to Gillespie's planned dishes, Shepherd produced some offerings of his own: grilled daikon with braised pork and royal red shrimp; braised goat and Korean-style dumplings; and roasted beets with strawberries, lemon yogurt benne oil, and bresaola.
Below, take a look at the action of Gillespie, Shepherd, and co. delivering to a full dining room.
