1) Alpharetta: From Louis Soon, previously the GM of Salt Factory, Little Alley Steak, and Opulent in Roswell, South Main Kitchen will hold a VIP night on Saturday, August 23, and open to the public on Monday, August 25. Chef Christy Stone will run the kitchen and cook up a "healthy take on modern American comfort food."
Look for menu items such as boiled peanut hummus and jam, pork osso buco, and kale-and-Brussels sprout salad. At the bar, the beverage program will offer a "farmers market-style" cocktail list that features fresh fruit juice cocktails and handcrafted spirits, a focus on local beers, and wines by the glass or bottle. The restaurant, at 9 South Main Street, will initially open for lunch and dinner daily before adding Sunday brunch this fall.
2) Virginia Highland: A new hot dog cart will set up shop near the BeltLine. Pop Dog is opening this Monday at 716 Ponce de Leon Place NE, just off the Eastside Trail. The location is behind antique shop Paris on Ponce.
The concept comes from Harry Karambizi, a Georgia State graduate, and offers all-beef and vegetable hot dogs with locally sourced ingredients. Available toppings include organic cilantro and green onions, homemade farm slaw, and broccoli-habanero slaw. Prices come in at under $10, with a Pop Dog combo (single dog, chips, and a drink) or double Pop Dog (two dogs) at $8. The cart will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
