Dine Out for Kids; Flames for Firemen; Advanced Canning

CHARITY WIRE — Restaurants are across the state will donate a portion of profits from breakfast, lunch, or dinner to Communities in Schools tomorrow, August 21, for the organization's Dine Out for Kids event. Included are nine restaurants Downtown, and the full list can be found here. Communities in Schools is an organization that provides help to "at-risk" students stay in school. [EaterWire]

WESTSIDE — Chef Meridith Ford, pastry chef and food writer, will be at Preserving Place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 to demonstrate advanced-pressure canning and preserving beyond jams and pickles. Guests will learn how to create vegetable soup and can it for winter along with more advanced vegetable canning. Cost is $95 per person, and registration must be completed 48 hours in advance. BUCKHEADShula's 347 Grill will host its fifth-annual Flames for Firemen party to benefit the Atlanta Fire Foundation between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on August 27. Guests can enjoy cocktails, raffle prizes, and $5 burgers cooked by Atlanta's firefighters and first responders. [EaterWire]
