MIDTOWN — Advanced sommelier Joon Lim will host a wine tasting featuring Boutique Wine Collections with chef Adrian Villarreal at The Spence between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11. Five wines will be tasted with passed appetizers for $45, and reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at (404) 892-9111. [EaterWire]

DECATURMakan now hosts hot pot nights every Tuesday for only six tables a night, by reservation only. Meat plates for two cost $30, and seafood plates run for $40. OLD FOURTH WARDRoot City Market will host a Fall Pop-Up at Gallery L1 along the BeltLine from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, September 13. Food vendors will be present, including XK Macarons and King of Pops. The first 50 people present will receive free coffee from Octane. Live music, art, and giveaways will be available as well. DECATURBrick Store Pub is hosting a "grilled cheese off" tonight, starting at 6 p.m. Five local chefs — Lusca's Angus Brown, JCT. Kitchen's E.J. Hodgkinson, Leon's Full Service's Eric Ottensmeyer, Kimball House's Jeff Wall, Wrecking Bar's Terry Koval — will compete to see who can make the best grilled cheese sandwich, and five beers will be paired with the eats. Tickets are $60 plus tax and gratuity and can be purchased at Brick Store.
