When Victory Sandwich Bar's original location closed at 280 Elizabeth Street in the summer of 2013, fans of the establishment's $4 sandwiches and Jack and Coke slushies were promised a reopening for the Inman Park locale in addition to the Decatur outpost. That reopening is coming soon, and it's not alone: The team — led by Paul Calvert, Caleb Wheelus, and Ian Jones — will also open Little Trouble across town in Westside Provisions District.
Calvert says Little Trouble, which will open below Abattoir in the development on Howell Mill Road, will be a kind of "mashup" of the casualness of Victory and the sophistication of sister spot Paper Plane in an atmosphere that's fun. It'll be a place for people to drop in at any point in the night, he adds, noting the good location and great neighbors. "There's nothing like that over there. There's dinner, college bars, dive bars, but where's the place for people who want to stay out and get a nice drink?"
The owners are loosely inspired "by the visuals and food of classic walk-up stalls in Japan and Southeast Asia" and the drink menu includes housemade sodas and sharable cocktails. Melissa Allen, of Decatur's Paper Plane, will take the lead in the kitchen; Little Trouble anticipates opening in the first quarter of the year.
As for Victory, it replaces the now-shuttered Park's Edge on Inman Park's Bernina Avenue. Expect the same fun menu as the Decatur Victory and a huge patio. Shanna Mayo, previously of Leon's, will be among the bar staff when it opens in early 2015.
