Kevin Gillespie, former Top Chef fan favorite, Terminus City barbecue purveyor, and proprietor of the wildly popular Gunshow, is opening a second restaurant in Decatur. Revival will operate as a meat-and-three and offer a "fresh take on the traditional, family-style Sunday dinner, with a focus on farm-raised and artisan-prepared ingredients."
The restaurant will take up residence in the space that previously housed Harbour House Pub, which closed in December.
"I have fallen back in love with the traditional dishes I grew up eating, and those that represent the beautiful culinary traditions of the Deep South," Gillespie said in a prepared statement. "Inspired by the cooking of my grandmothers and the history of our region, I want to breathe new life into that classic family-style restaurant, or 'meat-and-three.' We hope to showcase the dishes with a passion and precision that is largely unavailable currently."
The menu will offer seasonal meats, fish, and fresh vegetables, with options that change daily. Lunch will be served a la carte, and Gillespie said dinner "will more closely resemble a classic Southern family-style spread served in your grandmother's home. Revival will be like going to your grandma's on Sunday — except every day."
Gillespie plans to open Revival at 129 Church Street in early June. Whether that means a delay for his brick-and-mortar outpost for Terminus City, which currently operates as a catering and weekend to-go business out of Gunshow, remains to be seen. However, a local tipster tells Eater Atlanta that project has been put on the back burner.
UPDATE: PR for Gillespie confirms the chef is shifting his attention to Revival:
"Until Revival opens, they will continue to do Terminus City catering from Gunshow. Once Revival opens they will do it from there. The search for Terminus City's brick-and-mortar location is still ongoing, but Revival is their main focus right now."
