Le Fat, the forthcoming Vietnamese restaurant from Miso Izakaya's Guy Wong, has been delayed for months. But, it looks like an opening date is in sight. Wong is actively hiring staff, and he says Le Fat should begin service in mid-February.
"The buildout is going great," Wong said in an email to Eater Atlanta. "We had some initial delay from the city, but we are now very close to completion. The space was designed by Smith Hanes. For the decor, we focused on a time period when France had occupied Vietnam, so you will find a French-Vietnamese theme at Le Fat."
Smith Hanes Studio's work includes The Optimist, Watershed on Peachtree, No. 246, and JCT. Kitchen & Bar.
Wong said the menu is not yet complete, but it is in the final testing stages. Look for family-style dishes such as fried whole fish with crispy ginger and garlic, shaken beef, and carmelized chicken claypot. Classic pho, com, and bun dishes will be available as well. T. Fable Jeon, of The Lawrence/The Pinewood/Miso Izakaya fame, is in charge of the beverage program.
Le Fat is opening in the former Yum Bunz space at 935 Marietta Street. As for Wong's other upcoming projects, Ponce City Market's Ton Ton and Decatur's Big Boss Chinese, he's hoping for second- and third-quarter 2015 openings, respectively.
"What I've learned is that dates are never accurate, and we just have to open when we are ready," Wong said. "It's very important to me that we open right, rather than to force it based on a deadline."
