Zunzi's, the South African-inspired sandwich shop with two Savannah locations, is considering expansion into the Atlanta market, reports the Savannah Morning News. The restaurant is finalizing a deal with Z3 Management and hopes to open new locations throughout the Southeast and, eventually, nationwide.
"Once you franchise, you lose a lot of the control as far as the quality goes, so we're not franchising," Zunzi's founder Johnny DeBeer told the Morning News. "These guys do have the money so that they all stay under one umbrella.
"We're figuring out how we can mainstream processes from one location to the other to make them really easy to operate," DeBeer said. "We want to know what makes Zunzi's easier to run so people don't have to stand in long lines for their food."
DeBeer opened the first Zunzi's a decade ago, and he and his wife Gabrielle launched the second Savannah location in June 2013. In 2012, noted food fighter and Travel Channel personality Adam Richman named one of Zunzi's menu items, the Conquistador, one of the top two sandwiches in America.
