Get your hot chicken at West Egg Cafe while you can. Oddbird, the "restaurant within a restaurant" that serves the Nashville-style bird on sandwiches, biscuits, and waffles, will see its regular run hit the finish line on October 17, West Egg partner Jennifer Johnson tells Eater Atlanta. The semi-permanent pop-up will be in business tonight through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and then again next Wednesday through Saturday during the same hours.
Partners Ben and Jennifer Johnson and Shelley Sweet launched Oddbird back in April. In addition to the spicy fried chicken and sides, the pop-up served whole pies, offering Southern staples such as sorghum-pecan with brown butter cream, chocolate pudding with bourbon cream, and lemon with toasted meringue.
Once Oddbird flies the coop, West Egg will be open for breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch through the end of the year, and the team is still working out exact hours. The restaurant will be available for private events in the evening. The news isn't all bad for fans of hot chicken: Jennifer Johnson expects the pop-up to return once a month "while we plan Oddbird's next move."
