Replacing Thumbs Up Smokehouse but not straying too far from the concept, Thumbs Up BBQ & Burgers should open Monday, November 16, at 581 Edgewood Avenue. The restaurant sits adjacent to the Old Fourth Ward outpost of Atlanta breakfast icon Thumbs Up Diner.
Details are scarce at the moment, but signage on the window indicates service will begin at 5 p.m. and the restaurant will accept cash only, which is in line with payment policy at Thumbs Up Diner and the shuttered smokehouse. Obviously, the menu should include barbecue and burgers, and a peek through the front window shows more interior seating than was available at the previous concept. Eater Atlanta has reached out for more information.
Thumbs Up Diner has been a local breakfast favorite since the Old Fourth Ward flagship opened in 2000. Five more locations are in operation throughout the metro area: Decatur, Douglasville, East Point, Roswell, and Westside. Thumbs Up Smokehouse opened in 2011 and shuttered two years later.
Update: November 18, 2:30 p.m. The restaurant is open, and it's officially called Burnt Edge BBQ and Burgers.
