Get ready for 'lots of awesome changes.'

After hoping to open by New Year's Eve, The Family Dog's relaunch has been pushed to mid-January. A representative for new ownership group South Capital Partners confirmed the new timeline in an email to Eater Atlanta and said "lots of awesome changes are being made to the Dog."

South Capital Partners announced its acquisition of The Family Dog from angry chef Ron Eyester earlier this month. Eyester closed the restaurant, along with his other Morningside eatery Rosebud in October, three months after he pulled the plug on Timone's Pizza & Deli in the same neighborhood. When he made the decision to shutter his Morningside empire, Eyester admitted he had expanded too quickly.

"We bit off more than we could chew," Eyester told Eater Atlanta. "That's just the bottom line. We grew too fast and there were a lot of other moving parts that affected things. You just get to a situation where things avalanche, and when the people around you are losing confidence in what you're doing, they can't easily subscribe to the vision they once did. It makes it impossible to keep moving forward."

Rosebud was sold to Tom Murphy, the local restaurateur behind Murphy's in Virginia-Highland and Paces & Vine in Vinings. Murphy plans to open a new concept in the space early next year.
