The Place, the forthcoming Athens eatery from brothers and Georgia alums Alan and Ryan Pope, will open its doors on Monday, February 9. The restaurant is taking up residence in the former Five Star Day space at 229 East Broad Street.
Matt Myer, formerly of Hotel Indigo and Last Resort Grill, will serve as general manager, and Chelsea Anglin, who comes from Copper Creek Brewing Company, is on board as bar manager
The menu is built upon "a collection of family recipes." Look for Southern staples, such as braised pork shoulder with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables and red snapper, lightly breaded and pan-fried over wilted greens with lemon, garlic, and fresh parsley, served with maque choux and Southern-style lima beans. The bar will offer classic cocktails and 11 rotating tap handles of locally made and craft beers.
The Place will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the bar will stay open late.
