Last summer, conflicting reports said the folks behind Highland Bakery were moving into the Virginia-Highland space that previously housed Aurora Coffee, and then refuted that claim. As it turns out, the rumors were true. PR for the bakery has confirmed owner Stacey Eames is working on a new concept at 992 North Highland Avenue. Details are scarce right now, but should become available in the not-too-distant future.
The bakery's next venture will open in the Place on Ponce mixed-use development in Decatur, and it could be in business this summer. Highland Bakery currently operates its original location in Old Fourth Ward, plus outposts in Midtown and Buckhead and on the Emory and Georgia Tech campuses. Two more "hybrid" locations, offering sandwiches, coffee, and pastries, are in the works for Georgia Tech and Emory, and they are on track to open around the start of the fall semester in August.
