Urban Cannibals, which temporarily closed earlier this month in East Atlanta Village, will remain shuttered for the foreseeable future. The team behind the deli and bakery is working on three forthcoming ventures, and the EAV shutter comes in an effort to make progress on the new restaurants. Owners Calavino Donati and Doria Roberts announced the news Monday morning on Facebook.
First, we have made up for lost time on the new spaces by having UC in East Atlanta closed! This is a huge relief. We're working on "fun stuff" like plumbing and hooking up the last bit of equipment. Aesthetics and such (which are all superficial, thankfully) have been underway but are moving at lightspeed this week!
Second, because of this we are keeping UC EAV closed until further notice (i.e. indefinitely) so that we don't fall behind again. At some point, we'll be starting inspections to finalize licensing and those can also lead to delays that we cannot control. This is why we're making sure everything is done before we do that and control the variables available to us.
The Urban Cannibals folks are opening a second location and a new concept, Madre + Mason, in Midtown. They're working on Tipple + Rose Tea Parlor + Apothecary in Virginia-Highland, as well. All three projects are on track to open this summer.
