Andre Gomez, who previously served as chef de cuisine at Kevin Rathbun Steak in Inman Park, is working on a restaurant of his own in Smyrna. Porch Light Latin Kitchen is on track to open this August in a former Quiznos space at 300 Village Green Circle. Gomez has been testing out his concept and barbecue events around Georgia, and he'll pop up at Joystick Gamebar on Memorial Day.

Gomez said in an email to Eater Atlanta that the idea is to bring Latin flavors to smoked meats. He's not calling it barbecue, but will use traditional smoking techniques to serve food with inspiration from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, Spain, and Argentina.

The 1,400-square-foot restaurant will include an open kitchen with a wrap-around counter. Counter service will be available at lunch, and servers will be on hand for dinner seatings. Gomez said he wants "everyone to feel like they are at my home, hanging out on the porch, enjoying what we cook."
