Virginia-Highland's Illegal Food, the former Joystick Gamebar pop-up that offers one of Atlanta's favorite burgers, is adding Sunday brunch to its repertoire. The new service begins this weekend and runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Chef and co-owner Steven Lingenfelter, whose daily specials compliment Illegal Food's regular list of burgers and jazzed-up fries, has put his cheffy touch on the brunch menu. The ODB, a breakfast beef burger with cheese, house-cured bacon, two eggs, and maple mayonnaise, will anchor the menu, and cocktails include a Bloody Mary, made with more than 30 ingredients, and the Caucasian, a play on the White Russian with housemade Kahlua. A few more of the planned menu items:
- Kentucky Hot Brown
maple and sage-brined, pecan-smoked Maple Leaf Farms turkey breast; sauce Mornay; house-cured bacon; tomato jam; H&F pullman toast - Patty Melt
Two thin Brasstown Beef patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, special sauce, H&F toast - Sunday Breakfast
Two eggs, Logan Turnpike Mill grits, house-cured bacon or sausage, home fries, H&F toast - Quail & Waffles
Buttermilk-pecan waffle, fried local quail, black pepper-maple-bourbon sorghum, housemade hot sauce - French Toast
Thick-sliced H&F brioche; Grand Marnier and Saigon cinnamon-battered, smoked peach and strawberry compote; half-sweet Chantilly cream; organic maple syrup or sauce Anglaise - Sausage Biscuits & Gravy
Housemade breakfast sausage, buttermilk biscuits, smoked black pepper gravy, two eggs - Fruit Bowl
Organic strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, and Melons; Atlanta Dairies Greek yogurt; oat and local honey crumble; edible flowers
Illegal Food opened in the former Bar Meatball space in February. In addition to Sunday brunch, dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
