Jia Targets Mid-July Opening; Gus's Fried Chicken Coming This Summer

1) OLD FOURTH WARD — Ponce City Market's Central Food Hall has seen multiple delays, but Jia, the forthcoming Sichuan restaurant from the team behind Tasty China, hopes to beat the food hall's projected fall launch. Jia is currently in the process of filling out staff, according to a Cragslist post, and is planning on a mid-July opening date. The restaurant was previously hoping to open in January 2015.

2) DOWNTOWN — Memphis-based Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is working on a local outpost, and paperwork recently filed with the City of Atlanta indicates a possible summer opening, per Creative Loafing. The chain, with 10 locations operating in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas, dates to the 1950s and will move into the Peachtree Center at 225 Peachtree Street NE. Once it opens, hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

3) MIDTOWN — The former Old Spaghetti Factory space at 249 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE will soon have a new tenant. A brewpub called Torched Hop Brewing Company is moving in and could open in December, reports What Now Atlanta. The official Facebook page for Torched Hop says the venture will be a "dynamic and upbeat brewpub aimed at providing Atlanta with the freshest hand crafted beer and cuisine in town."

4) MIDTOWN — Charlotte-based restaurant 5Church will open an Atlanta location next year in the former Shout space at Colony Square, according to Tomorrow's News Today. The 11,000-square-foot eatery will feature two patios, and the original location, which serves modern American cuisine, was named best overall restaurant by Charlotte Magazine in 2013.
