Urban Cannibals EAV Won't Reopen

You'll have to get your Urban Cannibals fix at the forthcoming Midtown location.

With major expansion plans in the works, the team behind Urban Cannibals has officially shuttered its East Atlanta Village location. The bodega/deli/bakery closed in May and originally planned to reopen at some point, but co-owners Calavino Donati and Doria Roberts announced in a release Wednesday that the space will be turned over to neighboring We Suki Suki.

"[We Suki Suki owner Q Trinh] approached us about expanding when she heard we were closed indefinitely to concentrate on our new spaces," Donati said in a prepared statement. "After getting over the emotional aspect of the decision, we decided it was a good thing and were able to find a solution that was mutually beneficial for everyone," shared Chef Donati. "We're growing and we were in a position to facilitate the same opportunity to a longtime neighbor that also needed to grow. The timing couldn't have been more perfect."

The Urban Cannibals folks are opening a new location and a new concept, Madre + Mason, in Midtown. They're working on Tipple + Rose Tea Parlor + Apothecary in Virginia-Highland, as well. All three projects are on track to open later this summer.
