SweetWater Brewing Company, the brewery that started Atlanta's craft beer movement, is expanding with a new series of high-gravity beers, the company announced Thursday. The rotating list of brews, including barrel-aged beers, sours, and wild ales, will come in 750 ml bottles with cork and cage finish, and the initial offerings will hit shelves in July.
The first in the series is a Belgian-style brew called The Pit & The Pendulum. The beer's flavor comes from Belgian ale yeast, Brettanomyces (a strain of yeast known to impart complexity and sourness) and freshly puréed peaches. SweetWater says it's good to drink fresh, or is suitable for cellar aging.
