Melissa Davis, who had been serving as sommelier at Decatur's Cakes & Ale, is no longer with the restaurant. Davis' last day was on Sunday. Billy Allin, chef and owner of the essential Atlanta restaurant, confirmed the news in an email to Eater Atlanta Wednesday.

"Unfortunately Melissa is no longer with us," Allin said. "We appreciate her effort and time spent with us over the years and wish her only the best. [Beverage director Jordan Smelt], as had been the case before Melissa came on board, is going to run the beverage program solo for the time being. We will all pitch in where needed to maintain the high quality of the beverage list, but Jordan is quite capable himself."

Davis also confirmed her departure to Eater, but as of this posting has not responded to a request for comment. Smelt told Eater Atlanta that diners won't see any changes in the restaurant's wine list.

"Since I came on board in 2012 the wine program at Cakes & Ale has always been under my direction," he said in an email. "This will continue to be the case, and I will also run the program at the upcoming Bread & Butterfly."
