Dancing Goats Coffee Bar, the Old Fourth Ward shop operated by Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters, is expanding its operation. After an erroneous report of its shutter, Dancing Goats announced that it will add to its interior space, and it's planning to open a third location in Midtown next year.
Dancing Goats will add interior seating at Ponce City Market, taking over some of the development's office space. City Winery, the upscale New York-based wine bar/music venue will move in next door. There had been a report that Dancing Goats would close and City Winery would take over its space.
"That's just simply not true," Bartdorf & Bronson president and CEO Larry Challain said in a prepared statement. "We look forward to welcoming City Winery as our next-door neighbor, but Dancing Goats will remain where it is and, in fact, be growing in size. I can't imagine how the neighborhood would react if we tried to close. It's really their coffeehouse."
City Winery owner Michael Dorf has been considering Atlanta expansion since last September. In addition to the original in New York, Dorf has locations in Chicago, Napa Valley, and Nashville.
Dancing Goats' first local outpost opened in Decatur in 2007. The Ponce City Market coffeeshop followed in 2012. Details on the forthcoming Midtown location have not been released.
