Spice Road Chicken, chef Asha Gomez's Kerala-style fried chicken stand, is no longer in the works at Krog Street Market. Gomez confirmed that she is out of her lease in an email to Eater Atlanta Tuesday afternoon.
"I thought I'd cannibalize my own sales by opening another location a block away," Gomez said. "We now serve our Kerala Fried Chicken at Spice to Table everyday."
Gomez opened Spice to Table, her Indian patisserie, in the nearby Old Fourth Ward Studioplex development last August, and she has made her fried chicken a regular menu item in recent months. In addition to running the restaurant, which was named by GQ's Alan Richman as one of the best new eateries in America, she's currently writing her first cookbook. Gomez was previously chef and owner at Cardamom Hill before closing the Westside restaurant last July.
Spice Road Chicken isn't the first Krog Street Market project to go by the wayside. A seafood concept from the Off the Dock team was scrapped earlier this year.
