Wesley True Will Appear on 'Top Chef,' but He's Out at The Spence

A couple of eyebrow-raising items regarding The Spence executive chef Wesley True: He'll compete on the forthcoming California season of Top Chef, but he's no longer with the Midtown restaurant. Multiple tipsters confirmed True's Top Chef appearance, and PR for Concentrics Restaurants made his departure from The Spence official.

"Concentrics has decided to part ways with chef Wesley True of The Spence," the restaurant group said in a statement emailed to Eater Atlanta. "Unfortunately, it was not a great fit and we had to make the hard decision to move forward. We were huge fans and very supportive of Wesley from day one but, unfortunately, we did not get the same in return."

There's no word yet on a potential replacement for True. Concentrics PR could not confirm his Top Chef appearance, but those in the know indicate his recent extended absence from The Spence was due to the show's filming schedule.

True's tenure at the restaurant was short-lived. He took over the kitchen in March, shortly after Atlanta expat and Top Chef lifer Richard Blais officially parted ways. Before coming to Atlanta, True served as executive chef at True Restaurant in Montgomery, Ala., and he was a two-time semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South.
