Athens-based Terrapin Beer Co., now a subsidiary of MillerCoors, is expanding with a new venture at the future home of the Atlanta Braves. Terrapin will open a year-round taproom and "brew lab" at SunTrust Park’s Battery development, the brewery announced Tuesday. Construction is scheduled to begin in November, and Terrapin hopes to be ready for a debut in time for Opening Day 2017.

"We wanted to partner with Terrapin because they’ve been crafting beers right up the road in Athens and have developed a strong Southern following, so we knew right away they would be a natural fit with the Braves," Derek Schiller, Braves president of business, said in a prepared statement. "The Terrapin Taproom will pair Terrapin’s freshest and newest beers with some down-home Southern barbecue, which is sure to excite all of Braves Country."

Terrapin will pour a wide selection of its own beers at the taproom, and Fox. Bros Bar-B-Q, already on board for another venture at The Battery, will provide the smoked meats. Terrapin’s ATL Brew Lab will be located next door to the taproom, where the brewery "will experiment with different styles of brewing and further collaboration efforts on brand-new beers, including some special baseball-themed brands."

The Terrapin Taproom and ATL Brew Lab will set up shop right outside SunTrust Park, adjacent to the stadium’s field gate entrance.
