Chef Shaun Doty closed his Bantam + Biddy Midtown outpost in September, and now he’s ready to show off a new concept. The Federal opens to the public tonight at 1050 Crescent Ave. NE.
Doty and business partner Lance Gummere are ditching Bantam + Biddy’s fast-casual approach for a neighborhood bistro feel. The Federal’s menu is inspired by Doty’s “travels from adolescence to adulthood,” and it comes with a distinct Western European influence. Look for dishes such as Sardinian flatbread, beef tartare, pork schnitzel, and a whole loup de mer (Mediterranean sea bass). A $30 prix fixe menu, available weekdays at the bar, comes with a soup or salad, steak frites, and a cheese plate or sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
The Federal is open for dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and brunch service will be added soon, according to the restaurant’s website. Take a look at the opening menu below.
