Evan Cordes, who previously cooked at Cakes & AleH. Harper Station, and Serpas True Food, is back after a three-year break from restaurant kitchens. Cordes’s Cast Iron is certified open in Old Fourth Ward, taking over the Highland Avenue space that previously housed Last Word.

Cordes previously told Eater Atlanta his restaurant would offer "seasonal dishes for all occasions or no occasion at all, nothing too fancy, and the chef reiterates that "nothing too fancy" ideal on Cast Iron’s official website. Bradford Tolleson, who has had recent stints at Venkman’s and Craft Izakaya, is on board as bar manager. Tolleson has curated simple lists of cocktails, wine, and craft beer.

Last Word operated in the space from December 2014 until its official shutter in August.

Located at 701-5 Highland Ave. NE, Cast Iron is initially open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to late. Weekend brunch service is expected to debut soon. Take a look at the opening menus below.
