East Lake’s Hosea + 2nd development continues to rise with the opening of Poor Hendrix. The restaurant, from James Beard Award-nominated pastry chef Aaron Russell and wife Jamie, is now serving at 2371 Hosea L. Williams Dr. NE.
Aaron Russell previously worked as pastry chef at Linton Hopkins's Restaurant Eugene, as well as Nikolai's Roof and The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead. At Poor Hendrix, he’ll focus on "small plates of salty, spicy, and savory comfort food engineered to go best with drinking in a pub atmosphere." Regular dinner hours 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. Bar service runs from 4 p.m. to midnight on weekdays and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends, though the restaurant is still waiting on a liquor license, so it’s currently "closing a little earlier than usual." Poor Hendrix is closed on Wednesdays.
It’s the second Hosea + 2nd restaurant to come online, following a third local outpost for The Greater Good Barbecue. The next ventures planned are Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters, from One Eared Stag chef Robert Phalen, and a full-service version of Mix’d Up Burgers.
The project is the vision of Jay Martin and Nathan Bolster of ReDevStudio and Mike Nelson and Clay Harper, owners of Fellini’s Pizza, La Fonda Latina, and The Greater Good. Once Mary Hoopa’s and Mix’d Up are in business, the developers will look to grow with Hosea + 2nd phase two. The expansion could include another restaurant, a coffeeshop, retail, office space, and residential units.
