TOCO HILLS — Spiller Park Coffee, the Ponce City Market kiosk from Hugh Acheson and Dale Donchey, is expanding with a full-service storefront. The coffeeshop will take over a Toco Hills space at 2929 North Druid Hills Rd., reports Tomorrow’s News Today. There’s no official word on when it might open, but TNT speculates a debut could be in line for spring or summer 2017.
Spiller Park first opened in Ponce City Market’s Central Food Hall in October 2015, setting up shop between H&F Burger and Brezza Cucina. Acheson, the regular Top Chef judge, also operates four restaurants in Georgia: Empire State South in Midtown, Five & Ten and The National in Athens, and The Florence in Savannah. Donchey’s background includes time at Steady Hand Pour House, Method Coffee Bar, and Octane Coffee.
GLENWOOD PARK — Glenwood Park is getting the first location for what may be a burgeoning Jamaican chain. Festivals Jerk Chicken Grill is in line to open in January or February at 925 Garrett St., according to What Now Atlanta. The restaurant will serve Jamaican cuisine in a fast-casual setting, and restaurateur Winston Ferguson hopes to open as many as 12 locations in the next five years.
BROOKHAVEN — Ohio-based build-your-own-pie chain PizzaFire is opening its first Atlanta outpost at Town Brookhaven, the development recently announced on Facebook. The restaurant, which allows diners to choose from a variety of cheeses, sauces, toppings, and crusts, will take over the former Treza space at 804 Town Blvd. Details on a possible opening date have not been revealed, but PizzaFire should come online sometime next year. The chain’s website indicates a Roswell location is also in the works. Further information on that outpost was not immediately available.
PACES — A Northern Italian concept called Adalina is planned for the Post Riverside mixed-use development in Paces, reports What Now Atlanta. The restaurant, from Dennis Lange of Southbound, Yakitori Den Chan, and Five Seasons Brewing Co. fame, is moving into a space at 4403 Northside Pkwy. An executive chef has not been announced, and it sounds like there might not be a featured name in the kitchen.
"The notion of a chef-driven restaurant disgusts me," Lange told WNA. "I want a customer-driven restaurant. You can run a restaurant without cooks but you can't run a restaurant without customers." Here’s hoping Lange doesn’t actually plan on operating his new restaurant without cooks.
