After offering a preview to friends and family, Scout is ready for its public debut. The Oakhurst restaurant officially opens today at 4 p.m. for bar service and 5 p.m. for dinner. It’s located in the former McGowan’s space at 321 West Hill St., Decatur.

The venture is a reunion of sorts for a few veterans of Midtown’s Georgian Terrace hotel. Chris Martha, ex-director of food and beverage at the hotel, revealed plans for Scout in March. Michael Semancik, previously of the Georgian Terrace’s Livingston Restaurant + Bar, joined as executive chef in June. Nate Shuman, known for his work behind the stick at the hotel’s Proof & Provision, was announced as beverage director in August.

Further details on the menu and regular hours were not immediately available. Semancik previously indicated his dishes would be Southern influenced, but he won’t be serving “overdone comfort food.”

"I'll be working with local purveyors with whom I have longstanding relationships, like Bobby Britt of Besmaid Garden right here in Decatur," Semancik said in June. "We will seek out the best ingredients in the region and turn them into food people want to eat. Our goal is to create a really great neighborhood restaurant experience."
