Mihoko Obunai is close to opening Nexto, her Old Fourth Ward ramen shop, and now she's planning to give diners an early idea of what to expect. The chef will take over Parish on Monday, April 11, to serve ramen and small plates from 6 p.m. until the food runs out.
Obunai is teaming up with Concentrics Restaurants on Nexto, so it makes sense that she will host the sneak peek at another Concentrics concept. There's still no word on a specific timeline for Nexto's launch, but it should begin service fairly soon after the pop-up. The restaurant will move into a space at 822 Ralph McGill Blvd. NE.
Obunai's last noodle project was her Ramen Freak pop-up at The Sound Table. Before that, she served as the lunchtime chef at Southbound in Chamblee, and she's also spent time at Repast, Joli Kobe, and her Mibo Love ramen pop-up at So Ba. Earlier this year she worked in the kitchen at Huge Cafe in Midtown, partnering once again with The Sound Table owner Karl Injex.
In 2012, Obunai trained with chef Jack Nakamura at Ramen Lab in New York City, and she was one of five "ramen masters" featured in the Ramen Battle at the StarChefs International Chefs Congress in Brooklyn.
