The bar manager at LaCura Bar & Bistro was shot and killed early Friday morning, reports Channel 2. Fifty-one-year-old Melvin Allison reportedly was trying to break up a fight at the southwest Atlanta bar.

After Allison and a security guard escorted a man outside, the alleged assailant pulled out a gun and began firing. The security guard and another person also were shot, but their injuries were not life-threatening. 11 Alive reports Atlanta Police Department brought one person of interest into custody. Alonzo Ross, owner of the bar, told Channel 2 he and Allison "were like brothers."

"He talked to everybody, he tried to stop a lot of trouble from going," Ross told the news station. A cousin of Allison's said, "He shouldn't have gotten killed like that, they took his life for nothing."

APD is still investigating the shooting at 1919 Metropolitan Pkwy. SW, and there's no word yet on whether formal charges will be filed against the reported person of interest. LaCura has been closed since the shooting.
