Amer Opens This Thursday; Shanna Mayo Is in as Bar Manager

Bitter cocktails are coming to Inman Park

Dan Durnell

Amer, the long-anticipated Inman Quarter cocktail bar from Bocado's Brian Lewis, will open to the public this Thursday, March 31, according to an official announcement. And in a surprise addition to the team, Shanna Mayo, formerly of The LuminaryThe SOS Tiki BarVictory Sandwich Bar, and Leon's Full Service, is on board as a partner and bar manager.

Lewis previously told Eater Atlanta he intends for the bar to be "the perfect place to begin the evening and end the evening," a place that falls "between the esoteric and the playful." In addition to cocktails, look for a food program from Bocado chef Adam Waller focusing on light bar far that ranges from oysters and crudo to small sandwiches, charcuterie, and cheese plates.

The space is small and designed with inspiration drawn from bitters themselves —€” deep and brooding, like the "sun-drenched flavors of apertif," Lewis suggested. "Drinks that get your palate excited, and nicely composed dishes paired with the atmosphere and the drinks." Lewis and his team want the ambiance to be reminiscent of 1970s Italian films and retro Amari labels. Look for bright yellow, deep indigo, bronze, and marble. Large accordion windows will complement mid-century furniture.

The opening comes about a month and a half after the death of David Durnell. Durnell, who served as beverage director at Bocado, was on board as a managing partner at Amer.

Located at 299 North Highland Ave. NE, the bar is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. See the complete menus below.
