Amer, from Bocado's Brian Lewis and late David Durnell, is open in Inman Quarter, providing the Atlanta a shrine to all beverages bitter. Leon's Full Service/Victory Brands/The Luminary veteran Shanna Mayo is running the bar, which offers an opening menu of 16 cocktails with a focus on bitters and Italian Amari. Bocado chef Adam Waller is turning out a selection of small plates to go along with the cocktails.
The interior design is inspired by the bitters, and Lewis and his team want the ambiance to be reminiscent of 1970s Italian films and retro Amari labels. The decor features yellow, indigo, bronze, and marble, and large accordion windows pour light onto mid-century furniture and what the Amer team calls "old-world textures." The small space seats roughly 35, and there's a private room that can accommodate an additional 12. Outside, patrons are met by a bright yellow facade, which is meant to be a nod to Italian Giallo films.
