Taco Night Is Back at Last Word This Week

Chef Marco Serrano is temporarily taking over the restaurant

With Timothy Faulkner's Up Or Down cocktail pop-up having run its course, a new resident is taking over the Last Word space in Old Fourth Ward. Chef Marco Serrano will operate his Taco Night pop-up tonight through Sunday, Last Word owner Bernard Moussa told Eater Atlanta. Hours through Saturday are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday service is planned for noon to 7 p.m.

Serrano has taken over the Last Word kitchen for previous one-night pop-ups, and he's enlisted Moussa to serve as his sous chef. The menu consists of small plates and salsas to go with the tacos, which are served on corn tortillas from Buford Highway's Chicago Market. At the bar, look for "icy, Mexico-inspired cocktails and beer to wash it all down smoothly."

The pop-up is currently scheduled for this week only, but Moussa might extend it to next week. "It's really fun. I just love doing it," the restaurateur said in a phone conversation with Eater Atlanta.

Last Word has gone through a number of changes lately. Before Faulkner's Up Or Down pop-up, chef Andy Tran's Ramen Crush served out of the restaurant during March. Last Word executive chef Layla Walk and beverage director Cole Younger Just announced their amicable departures last month. Regarding the restaurant's future beyond Taco Night, Moussa is "playing around with some ideas."

"I'm still working on a few things with investors and potential partners," Moussa said. "Right now we're just doing the pop-ups. All of them have been a lot of fun."
