For the second year in a row, a who's who of Atlanta chefs will get together for an all-star fundraising dinner to benefit The Giving Kitchen. Set for May 1 at Umi Sushi in Buckhead, the event will feature 14 of the city's top cooks preparing a family-style meal with wine pairings.
Cookbook author Kate Parham Kordsmeier and photographer Heidi Geldhauser are hosting the dinner to honor late photographer and bartender Emily Cameron. Cameron, who poured cocktails with The Pinewood team, was killed in a hit-and-run accident last November. In addition to the meal, Kordsmeier and Geldhauser will present a $10,000 art scholarship to a service industry worker pursuing a career in the arts, given in honor of Cameron.
The chefs confirmed to take over the Umi kitchen are:
- Fuyuhiko and Lisa Ito, Umi
- Gerry Klaskala, Aria
- Joey Ward, Gunshow
- Asha Gomez, Spice To Table
- Bruce Logue, BoccaLupo
- Todd Ginsberg, The General Muir
- Billy Allin, Cakes & Ale
- Todd Mussman, Muss & Turner's
- Landon Thompson, Cooks & Soldiers
- Adam Evans, Brezza Cucina
- Philippe Haddad, Cape Dutch
- Matt Weinstein and Christopher Maher, One Midtown Kitchen
The evening starts with a 6 p.m. champagne reception with passed appetizers and a signature cocktail by Gunshow called "The Emily" at Himitsu, the Umi team's adjacent cocktail bar. That's followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at Umi. Tickets are $250 per person, and they will be available online beginning this Friday.
Last year's dinner served as a release party for Atlanta Chef's Table: Extraordinary Recipes From the Big Peach. Tickets sold out in less than an hour, and more than $15,000 was raised for The Giving Kitchen.
