Luca Varuni, the former Antico pizza maker who has been running Varuni Napoli in Morningside for the last two years, is planning a second restaurant. A spokesperson for Varuni confirmed he has another project in the works, but the exact location and further details were not available.
While there's no official word yet, Varuni may be eyeing a spot at Krog Street Market in Inman Park. Word on the street says Paces Properties has been looking to add a pizza concept to the development for quite some time, and Varuni's name was mentioned as a possible candidate back in January 2015. Now, multiple tipsters with an ear to the ground tell Eater Atlanta he may be on board. Wherever he lands, it's unclear if Varuni wants to open a second location for his pizzeria, or if this project will result in a different concept.
Varuni Napoli opened in April 2014, serving a selection of "artisan" and "classic" pizzas. Krog Street Market officially opened in November 2014 and has been evolving ever since with more and more restaurants and food stalls coming to life. Its next tenant scheduled to launch is Richards' Southern Fried, a hot chicken stall from chef Todd Richards. That should make its debut later this month.
