Second Self Beer Company has been working on a new and improved tasting room since March, and the brewery has a date in mind for the grand opening. Doors will open for the first time on Thursday, July 7, according to a Wednesday announcement, and Second Self is planning a weekend full of festivities to celebrate.
Founders Jason Santamaria and Chris Doyle are hosting five days of tours to show off the renovated facility, July 7 to Monday, July 11. Tickets are available online. The first 50 for each day are $10, and all remaining tickets are $15. The tours will include tastings of up to 36 ounces of Second Self brews on draft and a grand-opening souvenir glass. Food from local vendors will be available for purchase, and there will be live music from local bands Kay Dene on Friday and Station 7 on Saturday. Second Self says more musical entertainment will be announced "closer to the event."
A few new brews will be tapped for the grand opening: Funky Mole (mole porter finished with wild yeast), raspberry gose, grapefruit gose (based on Maverick & Gose), a caraway-and-black pepper saison, and a hoppy brown ale.
The new tasting room is three times the size of the old version, and it can accommodate up to 180 guests. Local firm Square Feet Studio designed the space, which includes a 24-foot butcher-block bar, separate kitchen for catered events and regular chef pop-ups, and reclaimed wood tables. A new canning facility was also part of the renovation, allowing Second Self to can all of its beers in house. The brewery previously partnered with a mobile canning company.
Following the opening weekend, regular tasting room hours will be Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
