Last year, New York City street food favorite The Halal Guys revealed intentions to enter the Atlanta market with five locations. Now, firm plans are made for the burgeoning chain's local debut. The Halal Guys will open the first of those five restaurants on Buford Highway, hopefully by this September.

Franchisee Moynul Chowdhury tells Eater Atlanta a lease has been secured on a space at 4929 Buford Hwy., Suite A, in Chamblee. That's right down the street from a few BuHi staples such as Canton House ChineseEl Taco VelozPho Bac, and Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe.

There's no word yet on where or when the remaining Atlanta outposts will open. Chowdhury previously told Eater Atlanta possible destinations may include the "Midtown Atlanta area, on Peachtree Road, and East Ponce De Leon," as well as "the Cumberland area, by the new Braves stadium, Emory University area."

The local restaurants are a small fraction of the 200 new Halal Guys eateries that are opening across the country. The chain, which started in 1990 as a street cart in Manhattan, is known for its gyro sandwiches and beef and chicken platters with rice.
